No single brand dominates the tactical footwear category. Reebok Tactical suits athletic construction preferences and is popular with Australian law enforcement. Under Armour brings performance sportswear engineering with strong waterproof options. Merrell delivers outdoor hiking construction adapted for tactical use, including the only current ADF-approved boot in our range. 5.11 Tactical is the traditional industry standard. Most TacSource customers own boots from 2-3 different brands to match different roles and conditions.

The Merrell MQC 2 is the only current ADF-approved boot in the TacSource range. Reebok Tactical, Under Armour Tactical and 5.11 Tactical are not currently on the ADF Approved Boots List. Australian defence personnel wearing non-approved brands do so as non-uniform training or off-shift footwear. Check your unit's dress standards before ordering.

Most tactical boots sold at TacSource are certified to the US ASTM F2413 standard rather than the Australian AS/NZS 2210.3 standard. For Australian worksites requiring AS/NZS 2210.3 certified safety footwear, check individual product specifications or contact TacSource for guidance.

Sizing varies significantly across brands. Check the specific size chart for the brand you're considering: Reebok Tactical, Under Armour Tactical, Merrell Tactical or 5.11 Tactical. Contact us with your regular Australian shoe size if you'd like personalised guidance.

Waterproof options include the Under Armour Charged Valsetz Waterproof, Merrell Moab 3 Tactical Waterproof, and Merrell Agility Peak 5 Tactical Gore-Tex variants. Standard non-waterproof models are water-resistant only and will not keep feet dry in sustained wet conditions. Check individual product specifications for waterproof certification and membrane type (Gore-Tex, proprietary, etc.).

The 6" is a mid-height boot offering ankle support without covering the shin. Suits warm weather, extended wear and lighter movement. The 8" adds ankle support and coverage above the calf, favoured by professionals carrying load, those who prefer more ankle protection, and buyers who want more structure through uneven terrain. Some ranges also offer low-cut variants for maximum mobility.

Wipe uppers with a damp cloth after wear. Standard leather conditioner extends life on leather panels. Air dry only, never near direct heat as it damages membranes, glues and Gore-Tex construction. Rotate between two pairs if wearing daily to extend overall lifespan. Replace insoles when compression flattens after extended use.
